If you lost or left an item behind onboard your flight:
- Please visit the airlines website as they have their own processes for returning lost property to their customers or you can find their contact details here.
If your baggage didn’t arrive to the carousel or was damaged:
- Please visit the airlines website as they have their own processes for mishandled or damaged baggage for their customers or you can find their contact details here.
If you have lost your passport or cash over $10,000 NZD:
- Passports and cash over $10,000 will be handed to Airport Police when found. Please contact Airport Police on +64 9 275 9046.
If you’ve left your duty free items after security:
- Duty Free items which are left after security will be passed onto NZ Customs. You will need to contact them directly on 0800 428 786 and they will advise on how you can collect your items.
If you’ve left something behind at security screening or had a restricted item removed from your checked luggage
- Please contact Aviation Security Service here.
Lost property found within the international or domestic terminal is managed as follows.
The following items will be disposed of immediately (subject to our discretion):
- Rubbish & non hygienic items
- Food & non-alcoholic liquid
- Alcoholic liquids which are not sealed
- Food & drink containers (including reusable water bottles and travel mugs)
- Medication
- False teeth
- Personal hygiene products, including makeup and toiletry bags
- Stationery and pencil cases / colouring in books
- Baby products such as dummies, bottles
- Any item that may be a biohazard
- Abandoned suitcases
- Passport holders (NOT passports)
- Neck pillows
- Items of clothing
- Non-branded sunglasses
- Miscellaneous
The following items to be kept for 30 days:
- Keys
- Wallets with no identification contained within
- Bank cards, drivers licences etc. (not cash)
- Adaptors, cables etc. unless attached to a device, then these are stored with the device
- Left luggage in processing areas
The following items to be kept for 90 days:
- Jewellery and watches
- Mobile phones
- Electronic equipment (including laptops, tablets, cameras, headphones and USB sticks)
- Prescription sunglasses and reading glasses
- All cash
- High value clothing, wallets or handbags
How to claim lost property:
If you have lost an item and it is being kept for a certain duration, please contact our lost property office (details below). If the team are able to locate your lost item, they will provide you with a reference number and you will need this, along with photo ID, to claim your item. Should you be unable to return to the airport to collect your lost property, the team are able to post this to you. Please discuss these options with the team member.
Claiming of cash can only be done via bank transfer directly.

Auckland Airport lost property office location:
The lost property office is located in our Operations Reception, Ground Floor, International Terminal (outside of Door 1). You will need to identify your lost item and bring photo ID with you.
To find Operations Reception, go to the international check-in area, exit the building through Door 1 and then turn right. View the Airport Maps to see the location.
